CARIBBEAN STUD POKER
Caribbean stud poker, also called casino stud poker, is a casino table game with rules derived from five-card stud poker. However, unlike standard poker games, Caribbean stud is played against the house rather than against other players. There is no bluffing or other deception.
What is the Rules Caribbean Stud Poker ?
1 Ante up. The first step in entering a hand of Caribbean stud poker is to place an ante or initial bet in the right spot on the casino table. Existing instructions from the dealer should make it clear how much the stakes are and what the initial bet amount is.
2 Add a jackpot bet. Each player can also put in another smaller amount of money to participate in a "jackpot" feature for this game.
- Put all applicable bets on the table before the dealer calls "no more bets." This call is an important protocol and part of the game.
3 Receive 5 cards from the dealer. After betting is closed, the dealer will deal each player 5 cards for his hand. The stud poker game eliminates any drawing or changing the cards in the hand.
4 Look at the first dealer's card. After dealing, the dealer will reveal his first card.
- Don't engage in table talk. In Caribbean stud poker, players cannot talk to each other about hands while the game is in session. Pros call this kind of discussion "table talk." Know the limits of what you can and can't say while at the table for this game.
5 Examine the 5 cards in your hand. Each player can look at only his cards.
6 Play or fold. After inspecting his cards, each player can play by doubling the ante or fold the hand and opt out of any further game play.
- Take your turn. The dealer will usually cue each player's decision to play or fold.
7 Allow the dealer to turn over his remaining cards.
8 Use existing hand hierarchy to determine whether you have beat the dealer. Those who beat the dealer win the hand and get money from the dealer. Others lose the money that they have bet on the hand.
The Strategy
It is possible for a player to reduce the house or casino edge in Caribbean Stud Poker. As a general strategy, you should never fold any pair (or higher hand rank) that you are dealt and always fold anything less than A-K. This is very basic Caribbean Stud Strategy - Play any pair and fold less than AK.
It is the playing strategy of A-K in Caribbean Stud Poker that really reduces the house edge. To play A-K profitably in Caribbean Stud Poker, there must be one of a number of conditions present.
If the dealer shows an ace or a king as their face up card, you should raise A-K-Q and A-K-J, as you have blockers to their pairs and more than likely the best A-K hand.
Raise A-K if the dealers face up card is a deuce through queen and you have that same card in your hand. * Blocker Effect
If the dealer shows deuce through five as the turned card, raise A-K-Q and A-K-J as you will more than likely have the best A-K hand.
Essentially, playing A-K optimally is the only way to reduce the house/casino edge in Caribbean Stud Poker. Using the strategy above, the house edge can be lowered by up to 2.3%, which is pretty significant.
Player Strategy
Using optimal strategy the house edge is 5.224% of the player’s ante bet. This strategy can be complicated and does not lend itself to practical use in a casino. Using a strategy of raising with Ace/King/Jack/8/3 or better the house edge is 5.316%, very close to the optimal strategy house edge.
Knowledge of what other players hold can decrease the house edge. It has been estimated with the knowledge of six other players’ hands (30 cards) and associated optimal strategy the player can gain an edge of 2.3%.
History
Who invented Caribbean Stud?
- The birth of the game is not well referenced, which is unusual for a relatively new game. Professional poker player David Sklansky has claimed that he invented the game in 1982 using the name “Casino Poker”. ... The poker player and the casino owner changed the rules slightly to create current Caribbean stud poker. 텍사스홀덤
